Pests and diseases

Bananas are host to a wide range of pests and diseases. The objective of this section is to keep tabs on all pests and diseases, starting with the ones that have taken on epidemic proportions and increasingly threaten the livelihoods of smallholder farmers.

For the name of the diseases, we follow the guidelines of the Committee on Common Names of Plant Diseases[1] of the International Society for Plant Pathology. For the names of viruses, we follow the guidelines of the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses[2].
