Bureau of the Governing Body of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture

What: The Bureau of the Governing Body of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture has opened the Call for Proposals 2010 under the Benefit-sharing Fund of the Treaty for its biennium 2010/2011. The Call will invest more than USD 10 million in projects globally.
Who: Any governmental or non-governmental organization, including genebanks and research institutions, farmers and farmers’ organizations, and regional and international organizations, based in eligible countries that are Contracting Parties to the International Treaty, may apply for grants under the Benefit-sharing Fund. The list of eligible Contracting Parties has been prepared based on a complete list of developing countries derived from the most recent World Bank’s classification of economies, as requested by the Governing Body.
When: Applicants seeking grants for any of the windows of this call can submit their pre-proposals by 8 September 2010, 24h00 (Rome time)

Where: Applications must be sent according to the Pre-proposal Form. These must be sent through the national authorities of a country that is a Contracting Party to the Treaty, i.e. through the National Focal Points or through the Permanent Representatives to FAO. A Helpdesk function will be provided to applicants upon request. It will give technical support when submitting pre-proposals on how to complete the Pre-proposal Form, the channels to be used to submit pre-proposals, eligible countries and applicants and potential sources of relevant information for the Call. The Helpdesk will provide information and support in English, French and Spanish through e-mails, and if possible, in Arabic for oral inquiries.

IFS Research Grants
What: The IFS Granting Program is open for project proposals from developing country scientists who conduct research on the sustainable management of biological resources. The IFS Research Grant is intended for the purchase of the basic tools needed to conduct the proposed research project - equipment, expendable supplies, and literature - and to arrange fieldwork activities related to the proposed project. It is expected that the IFS Grantees already receive a salary and are employed by or otherwise attached to a developing country research institution.
Who: Citizen of a developing country, with a Master’s degree and under 40 years of age (45 in sub-Saharan Africa)
