Swiss Center for International Agriculture: Research Fellow Partnership Programme
What: The Research Fellow Partnership Programme for Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources (RFPP) aims at generating development relevant knowledge, training young scientists and establishing research partnerships. The programme supports doctoral and post-doctoral fellowships as well as promoting internships. RFPP projects shall be embedded in research partnerships between a CGIAR centre (or equivalent) and a Swiss research institution.
Who: Swiss resident under the age of 36, or a citizen from a developing country or country in transition up to the age of 40

Food Security Center (FSC) Research Scholarships
What: In 2011, FSC is awarding up to 29 scholarships for PhD students and postdoctoral researchers for a period of 4 to 36 months. The Center wishes to attract outstanding PhD students and postdoctoral fellows pursuing a career in academia or development collaboration relevant to food security related issues. FSC offers three categories of scholarships: 1. Sandwich scholarships for PhD students (6 months); 2. Research scholarships for visiting postdoctoral researchers (4 months); 3. Excellence scholarships for FSC-supported PhD program “Global Food Security” (36 months) at the University of Hohenheim.
Who: Nationals of a developing country according to OECD DAC list and students of the University of Hohenheim

RFPP projects shall be embedded in research partnerships between a CGIAR centre or equivalent and a Swiss research institution.
Who: Swiss residents under the age of 36, or citizens from developing countries or countries in transition up to the age of 40. RFPP is funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and managed by the North-South Centre of the ETH Zurich.

International Development Research Centre (IDRC): The Bentley Cropping Systems Fellowship
What: The fellowship provides assistance to Canadian and developing-country graduate students with a university degree in agriculture, forestry or biology, who wish to undertake postgraduate, applied, on-farm research with cooperating farmers in a developing country.
Who: Applicants must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents of Canada, or citizens of a developing country who are currently enrolled full-time in a graduate program (Master’s, doctoral, post-doctoral) at a recognized university in Canada or in a developing country for the duration of the award period.

The Norman E. Borlaug Leadership Enhancement in Agriculture Program (LEAP)
What: A fellowship program, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), to enhance the quality of thesis research of graduate students from developing countries who show strong promise as leaders in the field of agriculture and related disciplines. The Borlaug LEAP Fellowship supports engaging a mentor at a Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) system center to support and enhance the thesis research and mentoring experience. Emphasis is placed on work that has relevance to the national development of the student's home country.
Currently there are two limited release Request for Applications (RFAs):
1. sub-Saharan African students conducting research on topics related to USAID's global hunger and food security initiative. The focus region is sub-Saharan Africa. All topics related to agriculture (as defined by Title XII) and food security are admissible. 2. developing country students conducting research in partnership with CRSPs (Collaborative Research Support Programs). The focus region is global. All topics related to agriculture (as defined by Title XII) and CRSP priorities are admissible.
Who: Citizens of a USAID-assisted country (for the targeted CRSP RFA) applicants are not limited to sub-Saharan Africa currently enrolled as an MS or PhD student at a U.S. or developing country university.

The Vavilov-Frankel Fellowship 2011, call for proposals
What: The Vavilov-Frankel Fellowship Fund aims to encourage the conservation and use of plant genetic resources by awarding fellowships to outstanding young researchers from developing countries to carry out innovative research at an advanced research institute outside their home country for a period of three months to one year. The fellowships are supported by Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc., United States and the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC), Australia.
Who: Applicants should be nationals of low income and lower-middle income countries, according to the Human and Income Poverty Index; should be no more than 35 years of age; should hold at least a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject area.

L’Oréal-UNESCO Regional Fellowships for Women in Science in sub-Saharan Africa
What: The L’Oréal-UNESCO Regional fellowships “For Women in Science” in sub-Saharan Africa seek to assist women scientists to realize important scientific research in all fields of science, engineering and technology. The aim of the fellowship is to assist women scientists to achieve a PhD degree in the fields of science, engineering and technology. Ten fellowships, up to a maximum value of US $20,000, will be awarded.
Who: Women scientists who are nationals or permanent residents of any country in sub-Saharan Africa. The age limit for the applicants is 40 years.

SEARCA Graduate Scholarships
What: The Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) offers two types of scholarships: (1) Regular MSc and PhD Scholarships, in agriculture, forestry and related fields; (2) PhD Research Scholarship, for a limited number of qualified PhD students whose researches are relevant to the priority thrusts of SEARCA.
Who: Grants are available to citizens of Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam.
When: For regular MSc and PhD scholarships: 30 July; For PhD research scholarships:
1 April and 1 September.
